The SIMI's latest report shows a further decline in demand for EVs in the region.
EV popularity in the midlands is continuing to fall.
New figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show new electric vehicle registrations have fallen by a quarter so far this year.
The market share for EVs has also fallen in Offaly and Westmeath, while it's marginally climbed in Laois.
Nationally, a decline of 25% in EV ownership could be seen.
Director General of the SIMI, Brian Cooke, says the approaching Budget is a good opportunity for the Government to intervene:
Westmeath has seen the largest number of new EV sales in the midlands, at 177, however that's down from 256 this time last year.
That's followed by a figure of 152 in Laois, which is a reduction of 44 when compared to the period between January and August in 2023.
While Offaly has seen 108 new EV registrations in the first eight months of this year, down from 150 in the same period last year.
Mr. Cooke says: "August represents the sixth consecutive month of falling new car registrations this year, highlighted by the continuing drop in Electric Vehicle sales, which are now down 25% year to date when compared to last year. The commercial sector, light and heavy commercial sales, continue to remain ahead of last year."
