The widening of access to birth information is being criticised for not going far enough.
Adoptees are still being treated as "second class citizens" in Ireland.
That's the view of advocacy group Aitheantas, despite new legislation widening access to birth certs.
From today, around 100,000 people who were adopted - or subject to an illegal birth registration - can apply for their birth information.
However, Aitheantas founder, Tullamore's Maree Ryan O'Brien is disappointed the Birth Information and Tracing Bill wasn't enacted in full.
Speaking to Midlands 103's Ellen Butler, she explained the need to keep pushing for a more transparent system:
