Investigations are underway after the Army's bomb squad removed a suspicious device from a Westmeath town.
It was discovered in the Market Square area of Athlone around 1:30 this afternoon.
Gardaí attended the scene along with the Defence Forces and cordoned off the area.
The device was then safely removed by the explosive ordnance disposal squad.
