The out-going TD made the comments at the launch of the party’s Laois/Offaly general election campaign last night.
He also thanked the public and party members for all their well wishes for Brian.
The former Taoiseach was first elected to the Dáil in 1984 following the death of his father Ber.
He retired from politics in 2011.
