Gardaí and the Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit were called to a residence in Mucklagh area of Tullamore at around 7pm yesterday evening, following the discovery of a suspicious device.
It's believed to have been 'historic in nature,' according to Gardaí.
The device was then destroyed in a controlled explosion.
Gardaí are advising members of the public if they see a suspicious item, or hazardous substance, maintain a safe distance and inform their local Garda station.
