Omicron variant now accounts for at least 83% of cases.
10,404 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported today.
It's the the third day in row that the figure has been over 10,000.
426 patients are in the hospital with the virus, an increase of 48 from yesterday, with 91 in intensive care, up four.
All indoor events, including bars and restaurants, remain under an 8 o'clock curfew until the end of January.
Fianna Fáil senator Eugene Murphy says a roadmap for a full reopening is needed:
The five-day moving average of Covid-19 cases has more than doubled over the past 10 days.
It's after a dramatic surge in infections in recent days.
The highly transmissible Omicron variant now accounts for at least 83% of cases.
That has led to Covid infections to reach record levels in recent days.
Just under 44,000 cases have been reported in the past five days - giving a five-day moving average of 8,788.
Ten days ago, it was less than half that, at 4,296.
However, there has been no similar surge in Covid hospitalisations just yet.
Last night 394 Covid patients were in public hospitals throughout the country - 24 fewer than 10 days ago.
Beaumont Hospital in Dublin has 45 patients in hospital with the virus - the highest in Ireland.
That's followed 36 in Tallaght Hospital, 30 in Drogheda, and 28 in the Mater Hospital in Dublin.
