€4.5 million is going towards the development of greenways.

26 new greenways are to be developed across the country.

€4.5 million in funding is being given to projects through the Carbon Tax Fund.

That includes €100,000 for the Lough Ree project, between Athlone to Tarmonbarry in Co. Roscommon.

The funding is going towards a a concept and feasibility study for the 68km stretch of greenway.

Fáilte Ireland is welcoming the announcement, saying it's critical we invest in the future of walking and cycling for communities and visitors.
