€24M Allocated For Midlands Health Projects

Portlaoise Hospital will receive over €4m.

Over €24m is being invested in health projects in the midlands under the National Health Capital Plan for 2021. 

Westmeath is being provided with €13.67m, with €6.25m going to Laois and Offaly will receive €4.4m. 

Offaly Junior Minister Pippa Hackett says, “It’s encouraging to see that in 2021, €6.25m will be spent on capital improvements in Laois and €4.4m will be spent in Offaly on a number of significant projects, which will see improvements in health care facilities across the constituency.”

Tullamore Health Centre - Refurbishment of existing Health Centre to provide accommodation for dental, audiology and admin - €390,000

Midlands Regional Hospital - Tullamore - The provision of a new build 16 bed single ensuite with associated ancillary accommodation and day services, outpatient and community home care team accommodation. [Midlands Hospice] (Design Costs) €100,000

Midlands Regional Hospital - Tullamore - Reconfiguration works to provide Mid-term AMAU, 2no isolation rooms in Emergency Department, Reconfigure and extend Blood transfusion and Histology labs - €3.29m

Midlands Regional Hospital - Tullamore - Upgrade fans and ventilation ductwork through out hospital €100,000

Midlands Regional Hospital - Tullamore - Ventilation of 11 existing Isolation rooms and Conversion of Ward Area to provide 16 Isolation rooms €520,000

In a statement from Fianna Fail Laois Offaly TD and Minister of State, Sean Fleming, he says the funding for the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise (€4.66million) will be used for works on a Respiratory Assessment Unit, additional clinical and admin accommodation, AMHU anti ligature works, provision of nine isolation units and reconfiguration of the maternity ward.

St Vincent’s Hospital, Mountmellick: €950,000 for new build to increase bed capacity.

Mountrath Health Centre: €340,000 to provide an extension and additional accommodation.

St Fintan’s Hospital, Portlaoise: €300,000 for new primary care centre and refurbishment works for the Child and Adolescent Unit (CAMHS).

Maryborough Residential Centre, Portlaoise: €200,000 to provide single ensuite accommodation.

His party colleague and Longford Westmeath Deputy and Minister of State, Robert Troy says the funding in the Lake County will go towards a number of projects:

Relocate Ambulance Station Mullingar - Will replace existing fragmented service and integrate fleet and operatives in one central location in Mullingar. (Temporary base on site Oct20) €2.98m

Athlone Ambulance Base - New Ambulance Base €500,000

Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar - Extension to Radiology Department to accommodate an MRI being provided by others €4.09m

Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar - New Projects: Respiratory Assessment Unit (RAU): OPD space to accommodate a Respiratory Assessment Unit (RAU) Adult & Paediatric €4.69m

Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar - Lift Replacement Programme (Bed Lifts) €600,000
