The road is closed currently with diversions in place.
A man in his forties has died following a road collision in Athlone.
The single-vehicle crash occurred on the Roscommon Road, near Ballybay National School in Kiltoom, around half nine this morning.
The driver of the car received medical treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead.
The road is closed between Kiltoom Stores and Ganly's roundabout with diversions in place, as forensic examination of the scene is underway.
