Enoch Burke Criminal Contempt Proceedings To Be Decided Before Christmas

Mr Burke was told in a High Court hearing today he needs to purge his contempt to end his fourth stint behind bars.

Enoch Burke has been told he won't be getting out of prison for Christmas unless he purges his contempt and agrees to stay away from Wilson’s Hospital School.

At today’s High Court hearing, the judge also gave the Attorney General two weeks to make a decision on whether criminal contempt proceedings would be brought.

He is now serving his fourth stint behind bars for refusing to stay away from Wilson’s Hospital School, in defiance of a court order.

Mr J Brian Cregan criticised him for wasting taxpayers’ money and said any “preferential treatment” he previously received was now ending.

He said he would spend Christmas, and every other holiday, in prison until he purges his contempt.

In a previous judgement, Mr J Cregan asked the Attorney General to consider bringing proceedings for criminal contempt of court against Enoch; his mother; sister, Ammi; and brother, Isaac; and today, he said he wanted a decision on it within two weeks.

He said if the Attorney General decides not to proceed, the court may bring an application itself through the President of the High Court.
