Gardaí say they've been made aware of misinformation spread in relation to an alleged assault in Birr at the weekend.

False accusations made against refugees create a perception that asylum seekers are 'bad people.'

That's according to the Founder of Dignity Partnership, Mountrath woman Rosemary Angel Kunene.

Her comments come as Gardaí say they've been made aware of misinformation spread in relation to an alleged assault in Birr at the weekend.

They say the disinformation is in relation to the nationality of the man arrested in connection with the incident.

Ms. Kunene says communities tend to be suspect of newcomers to the area:
