Fraud offences have increased by a fifth according to figures from the CSO.
Over 2,800 such crimes were reported in the Eastern region of the country, which includes Laois, Offaly and Westmeath.
The region saw the second largest increase in the country in fraud and deception, at 28%, when compared to the first half of last year.
Meanwhile, over the same period, there has been a decline of 12% in sexual offences, with the East seeing a drop from over 800 to 755 when compared to the same time span last year.
The total number of crimes reported nationally in Q2 reached just over 14,000.
