The site in Lissywollen has been the subject of protest and objection over the course of 2024.
The fate of a Westmeath Asylum Seeker Accommodation centre has been cast into further doubt after a judge adjourned a High Court hearing on the situation.
The case concerning the Athlone Accommodation centre won't be heard until March 24th.
Councillors in the Athlone area opposed to the planned 1,000 person capacity facility on environmental grounds with the then Minister for Integration, Roderic O'Gorman conceding the case late last year.
The State have now moved to secure a six month stay on the case, in a bid to correct the environmental impacts.
