Laois TD Welcomes Reform To Ireland’s Asylum Accommodation System

Jim O’Callaghan will present plans to cabinet today to tighten international protection regulations.

A Laois TD and former Junior Foreign Affairs Minister says incoming changes to the State's Asylum Seeker accommodation system are overdue.

Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan will bring a series of proposals to cabinet today as efforts are made to tighten the rules around international protection. 

The changes could see those seeking asylum here paying a contribution towards their living costs. 

There may also be amendments around the area of refugee family reunification, and how long those who've been granted asylum will have to wait before applying for Irish citizenship.
