A midlands historian believes reviving the barracks will be a costly operation.
A former midlands army barracks is "slowly crumbling into history."
Mullingar Historian Jason McKevitt says no progress has been made on promises made in relation to Columb Barracks, on the 12th anniversary of its closure.
The site is currently being used to accommodate Ukrainian refugees, with 62 rapid-build units on the premises.
Mr. McKevitt says there may be an opportunity for the private sector to step in:
