New figures show a further drop in the electric vehicle registrations.

The falloff in EV popularity in the midlands is continuing.

Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show Westmeath saw a drop of almost 40% on new electric vehicle registrations in Westmeath.

While the decline in Offaly is 24%, and 13% in Laois.

Nationally, June saw a drop of over 50% in EV registrations when compared to the same month in 2023.

Director of the SIMI, Brian Cooke, says the decline highlights the need for Government to support the EV transition:
