New figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show EV sales in the region jumped by a quarter.

Electric vehicle popularity in the midlands continues to rise.

New figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show EV sales in the region jumped by a quarter in the year to February, to 195.

85 new electric vehicles were registered in Westmeath, 59 in Laois and 51 in Offaly.

Overall car sales also slightly increased, from 1,565 this time last year, to 1,593 this year.

Director General of the SIMI, Brian Cooke, says overall sales are still behind pre-Covid figures:
