A medical expert at the Central Mental Hospital will now assess Ross O’Rourke.
A man has been found not guilty of murdering his father by reason of insanity.
Ross O’Rourke, with a previous address in Tullow, Co.Carlow, killed Stefan Nivelles Posschier at The Stables in Kinnegad, Co.Westmeath in October 2022.
The issue for the jury to decide was whether he was suffering from a mental disorder at the time which qualified him for the special verdict.
A unanimous verdict was returned after 29 minutes of deliberations.
Mr O’Rourke, who’s 31, will now be assessed by a medical expert from the Central Mental Hospital before a decision is made on his future treatment plan.
