Offaly Local Development are now hoping to reach groups that were previously unsuccessful.

The Department of Rural and Community Development is allocating just over €2 million to the midlands through the transitional LEADER programme.

The money is used to bridge the gap between the current EU programme and a new plan being agreed, which is unlikely to take place until 2023.

€730,000 will be available in Offaly, €671,000 in Westmeath and more than €647,000 in Laois.

Brendan O'Loughlin from Offaly Local Development Group says they'll be aiming to reach groups who were previously unsuccessful:
