The average cost to rent a home in Westmeath is €1,371, which is a near 20 percent increase on this time last year, and is also the most in the region.
In Laois, rent prices are 15 percent higher than they were last year, at €1,282.
The picture is not much better in Offaly, where the average price of rent is €1,257, over 16% more than it was this time in 2021.
There are only 35 properties available to rent in the midlands - 19 in Westmeath, and eight in both Offaly and Laois.
The country experienced a 4.3 percent quarterly increase in rent prices nationwide, which is by far the largest increase since 2005.
