Midlands Sees Another Decrease In Homelessness

The figure nationally, however, has reached a record high.

There's been a slight decrease in homelessness in the midlands despite there being new record high nationally.

It's the second consecutive month the figure has gone down in the region in the latest monthly government report.

184 people were without permanent accommodation in Laois, Offaly and Westmeath in September, according to new figures from the Department of Housing.

The figure represents another small decrease in homelessness across the three counties after a series on increases.

137 adults accessed emergency accommodation in the region last month, 71 in Westmeath, 43 in Offaly, and 23 in Laois.

47 children were also registered as homeless in the midlands in September.

Nationally, 14,486 people were without permanent accommodation last month - the highest figure on record.

While just over 4,561 children were registered as homeless in that time frame.

The figures released by the Department of Housing do not include refugees, asylum seekers, women in refuge centres or rough sleepers.
