Over 13,000 people in the midlands are driving with a learner permit.

The Road Safety Authority and Gardaí are launching a new campaign urging anyone who hasn't got a full licence to take their test.

More than 750 people in Laois are on their 5th permit or more, with 642 drivers in Westmeath in the same situation and 524 in Offaly.

RSA Chief Executive Moyagh Murdock says there's a misconception that it's young drivers who aren't taking their test:
