The latest equine census shows there's just under 9,000 horses in the Midlands among a national population of 120,000.
Westmeath has the highest number in the region at 3,700, followed by Offaly at 2,600, and Laois at just under 2,500.
Galway is home to the largest equine population at 13, 640, followed by Cork and Tipperary.
