Nearly €60k Announced To Tackle Literacy In The Midlands

A number of projects around the region will benefit.

Nearly €60,000 has been allocated to projects tackling literacy, numeracy and digital skills in the midlands.

Higher Education Minister Patrick O'Donovan announced €36,000 for Westmeath and Longford, which will benefit schemes. such as library learning clubs and the Save our Seeds project.

While Laois and Offaly will see €22,000, and will be divided among classes like Traveller Traditions cookbook, and literacy through chess.

The funding is aimed at supporting learners such as older adults, Travellers, migrants, lone parents, and early school leavers.

Minister O'Donovan says it will help us become a more inclusive society:

"The fund is helping organisations and services to be more literacy friendly and accessible to adults with unmet needs.

The innovation and diversity shown by these projects is fantastic to see and highlights the importance of having fun through learning, whether that is through music, arts, or comedy.

This creative approach will help to reach communities such as older adults, members of the Traveller community, or persons experiencing addiction."
