Deputy Flanagan spent 36 years of his career as a TD.
Former Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan says he has "no regrets" as he announces his decision to step away from politics.
The Laois Offaly TD has told a Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting in Clonaslee he won't be contesting the next General Election.
His career as a Deputy spanned 36 years, and he's the seventh sitting Fine Gael TD to announce he will no longer be running for the party.
Deputy Flangan has been speaking to Midlands 103's Will Faulkner on Midlands Today - he tells Will why he made the decision:
Fine Gael representatives have been wishing Deputy Flanagan well, with Taoiseach and party leader Leo Varadkar highlighting him as a "reforming and diligent Minister for Justice."
Honoured to work alongside my colleague and friend @CharlieFlanagan TD who announced his intention to step back from politics at the next general election at our constituency meeting in Clonaslee this evening.
