Offaly Bike Shop Owner Calls For Tougher Penalties For Phone Use While Driving

Current phones users while driving receive a fine of €120.

The owner of an Offaly bike shop is demanding harsher penalties for motorists using their phone when driving.

Donagh McArdle is the owner of Tullamore Cycle Centre, and claims he's seen a massive increase mobile phone useage on Midlands roads.

Currently using a phone while driving costs 3 penalty points, and a fine of €120 - which goes up to €2,000 and five penalty points if taken to court over a refusal to pay.
