Daingean Development Association says weed growth is blocking boats from using the Grand Canal.

Community volunteers in Offaly are warning if weed growth isn't tackled along the canal, the greenway itself will fall into disuse.

Daingean Development Association wants to restore the Grand Canal Way in the town.

The group says no boats or barges are able to use the waterway due to the weeds.

Its Chairperson is Malachy Keating, he says if action isn't taken soon, the community and future tourism will be hit:
