€18m is being provided across the JT region for 15 projects.
Over €7.5m in funding has been announced for the midlands under the EU Just Transition Fund programme.
€18m has been allocated to 15 projects across the EU JT region, six of which are in the midlands.
The grants will go towards upskilling and training communities in the low carbon economy, the preservation, repurposing and refurbishment of local infrastructure and heritage assets, and supporting green technologies.
Two projects are based in Westmeath, and two are in Offaly, one in Laois and one that covers the region.
Minister for the Envirionment, Eamon Ryan says "It is imperative that communities and workers who are most affected by the shift to a carbon neutral future are provided with targeted supports to address the social and economic impact"
