IRHA President. Rosenallis's Ger Hyland, feels there's too many learner permits on the roads.
The Road Safety Authority is categorically rejecting claims from the IRHA that it's not making progress on driver testing backlogs.
President of the Irish Road Haulage Association, Laois man Ger Hyland believes the number of learner permit holders on Irish roads, which currently stands at 388,090, shows the RSA is unable to fix the problem.
In a statement to Midlands 103, the RSA says it "remains focused on enhancing service delivery and improving the overall customer experience", with 120,967 driving tests by the end of May 2026, compared with 92,327 at the same point last year.
The organisation also says that the national average waiting time for a Category B driving test is now approximately 12 weeks, compared with 21 weeks at the same time last year.
