Scheme Launched To Cut Cost Of Building New Homes

A scheme to make the building of affordable and cost-rental housing more attractive is being launched.

Developers could receive grants of up to €150,000 per building in an effort to subsidise high costs.

The Irish Independent reports senior ministers and officials are "locked in confidential talks."

Meanwhile, Sinn Fein says the Government's 'help-to-buy' housing schemes should be scrapped and funds diverted to boost the supply of affordable homes instead.

The party is tabling a motion to shelve the Shared Equity Loan scheme and the so-called Help-to-Buy Scheme.
