Schools Told Not To Hold Mock Exams For Leaving Cert Calculated Grades

The Department of Education has been explaining how the grades will be formed.

The Department of Education has told schools not to run mock exams as part of the calculated grades process for the leaving cert. 

It says the grades will be based on a teacher's estimated mark and national standardisation.

Students who opt to sit the exams in June will have fewer questions to answer - but the duration of the tests won't be shortened. 

Laois' Reuban Murray, President of the Irish Second Level Students' Union, says it's welcome mocks are off the agenda:

The Teachers' Union of Ireland says the decision to include fewer questions will re-balance the exams for students. 

General Secretary, Tullamore's Michael Gillespie explains how teachers will work out accredited results for students who choose not to sit an exam:
