There's some serious talent among local young people!
Six midlands students are among the winners at this year's Texaco Art Competition.
Westmeath scooped four prizes, with one each for Laois and Offaly - with the successful artists ranging in age from 16 right down to four.
The winning pieces are on display in Drogheda’s Highlanes Municipal Art Gallery until October 2nd.
The prestigious competition, which is now in its 67th year, offers a platform for young artists to have their talents recognised.

OFFALY
Six year old Martin Moore from St. Colman's National School, Tullamore, won a Special Merit Award for his artwork entitled ‘My Dog Matt’, which Final Adjudicator, Professor Declan McGonagle said: “demonstrated high levels of skill and imagination”.
LAOIS
In the 6 years and under age category, Kelly Hynes (5), a pupil at Anne Kelly School of Art, Craft & Design in Clonaslee, won second prize for her painting entitled ‘Easter Eggs Hunt at Grannys’.
Her work is described by Final Adjudicator, Professor Declan McGonagle as a “soft and delicate use of the watercolour medium”.
WESTMEATH
In the 6 years and under age category, Muhammad Hadi Qureshi (4) from Parish Community Woman Centre, Mullingar, won first prize for an artwork entitled ‘Dog (Finger Print Art)’.
In the 7-8 years age category, Laraib Aslam (7), a pupil at Presentation Junior School, Mullingar, won second prize for an artwork entitled ‘Cliffs Of Moher’.
In addition, two Westmeath winners each won Special Merit Awards for artworks that Final Adjudicator, Professor McGonagle said, “demonstrated high levels of skill and imagination.”
They were Amy Zhao (16) from Our Lady's Bower Secondary School, Athlone...
...and Preksha Utekar (8) from Presentation Junior School, Mullingar.
No stranger to the Competition, Amy won first prize in the 12-13 years age category of the 2017 Competition, second prize in last year’s 14-15 years age category and a Special Merit Award in 2018.
