Status Yellow Rain Warning Taking Effect This Evening

Met Éireann is warning of possible spot flooding.

The midlands will be under a status yellow rain warning this evening.

Met Éireann is forecasting spells of heavy rain across Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and seven other counties from 6pm today until 1pm tomorrow.

It's warning of possible spot flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.

Liz Walsh of Met Éireann says the day will start good but change can be expected in the early afternoon.

While we probably shouldn't break out the t-shirts and shorts today, the weather is expected to take a turn for the better this weekend.

It's expected to clear up on Saturday afternoon, with more sunshine rolling around on Sunday, which will stick around early on Monday.

Offaly's Cathal Nolan, from Ireland's Weather Channel, says there are signs of an improvement from the wettest July on record, on the horizon:
