A Westmeath senator says he's repeatedly said a spring election would be best.
The Taoiseach is understood to have ruled out an early general election.
At a meeting of Fine Gael Ministers this morning, Leo Varadkar said he won't go to the polls before Christmas.
Pressure had been building on Leo Varadkar to make a dash to the polls while there was a window in the Brexit process, with the UK heading for a Christmas election.
One said May 2020 remains the date the Taoiseach wants - and it rules out a Christmas election in Ireland.
Athlone-based Fine Gael senator, Gabrielle McFadden, is confident the Leo Varadkar will do whatever is in the best interest of the country.
She adds that he's repeatedly said going to the polls in spring 2020 is preferable:
