Portlaoise Prison is also close to full capacity
The Midlands Prison is overcrowded.
The facility is operating at 103% capacity, with 24 more prisoners in custody than there are beds available.
Portlaoise Prison is also close to full capacity, with only nine beds available.
Nearly 200 prisoners are sleeping on the floor in facilities around the country, with the jail's operating at 104%.
The Irish Prison Service says it has to accept all prisoners sent to them by the Courts, and it has no control over the numbers committed to custody.
It also says it's working with the Justice Department to ensure a safe environment for both prisoners and staff.
