Westmeath County Council say technical and software issues are to blame for the ongoing traffic problems in Mullingar.
A march took place this morning from Market square to the council offices to highlight the impact the works are having on local businesses.
A petition containing nearly 300 signatures from local traders was handed in to council SEO Pat Keating.

The Mullingar Street Enhancement project is now substantially complete to a very high quality and standard.
New Traffic lights (on preprogramed timing cycles) are installed at all the junctions from Dublin Bridge to Green Bridge. The installation of the smart technology system which is to be fitted to these lights was scheduled to be operational by now. However, due to technical and software issues, the contractor has fallen behind programme but is working to have these operational as soon as possible.
The existing lights are being monitored and adjusted, regularly, to ensure pedestrian safety and traffic flow is maximised.
After the smart technology is fully operational Westmeath County Council will continue to monitor the system.
