It was feared someone was trapped inside the house.
A Westmeath home has suffered significant damage in a fire.
Units from Athlone and Ferbane responded to the blaze in Auburn Heights in Athlone yesterday evening at around 6.35pm.
It was initially expected there was somebody trapped in the home, however emergency services discovered the house was empty.
The owners have been advised not to re-enter the property, after the fire started in the garage area.
The side walls of the garage were also knocked to make the area safe.
Fire services tackled the fire for around 40 minutes, before leaving the site shortly after 10pm.
