A project that was first mooted over a decade ago is finally seeing substantive progress.
A primary care centre in the midlands will act as a "one-stop-shop" for patients.
The facility in Birr was proposed over 10 years ago, but the project has been delayed several times, mainly due to issues with choosing a site.
Planning permission was finally granted last month for the centre, which will include treatment areas, consultations rooms and a surgery space for general practitioners.
Independent Councillor for Birr, John Carroll says there is hope there will be further developments soon:
Councillor Carroll also says a it's hoped a new new Gael Scoil in Birr will be open before the end of the year. The school building will be a state of the art modular structure.
Meanwhile, €250,000 has been set aside for the development of the Market Square the town as part of the Public Realm scheme. There is also work being done on a new pedestrian entrance to the Scientific Heritage Centre.
Councillor Carroll says that despite recent developments, the town of Birr has "kept its character" and remains a "traditional" town.
