Buccs at home to Old Crescent this Saturday
Buccaneers travel to Limerick to take on Old Crescent in the Energia All-Ireland League on Saturday. Kick off is 2.30 p.m. for this vital Division 2A tie at Rosbrien. The sides are one just above the other in the league table so these back to back fixtures either side of Christmas will be significant encounters.
Old Crescent have the same number of wins as Buccs but they are three points ahead of the midlanders in fourth place. That difference is reflected in try bonus points, with the Munster side having four compared to the Pirates solitary one. Top scorers in Division 2A, it appears that the Rosbrien outfit have a potent attack so Buccs will need to hit the ground running, and be disciplined, committed and organised from start to finish. A mix of the steadfastness shown against Cashel added to the flair displayed at Dolphin would serve Buccs well. If they can do that, then an exciting and entertaining joust looks highly possible.
Other Fixtures
Buccaneers J1’s play Westport in the Connacht Junior 1A League under the Dubarry Park floodlights on Saturday night with the action getting under way at 7 p.m. Buccs are propping up this league table but have a squad capable of faring much better. If they stop conceding penalties, many needlessly, eliminate handling errors and nourish possession of the ball, Buccaneers can retrieve their situation.
The J2’s are also at home this weekend. They take on Loughrea in the Connacht Junior 2 League in Athlone on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. Both these clubs seem to be evenly matched, lying in the lower regions of the league table. Home advantage may prove vital to Buccs as would some training by this particular group!
Buccaneers RFC thank Michael Ganly, CEO, Ganlys of Athlone, for his patronage of the club and his witty words at last Saturday’s pre-match lunch. Guest speaker Tim McCarthy is also complimented on his tales regaling his Cork roots and sporting exploits.
Buccs next pre-match lunch is on January 11th for the crunch game against Old Crescent. Thanks also to everyone who supported our U-16’s team’s
Table Quiz in The Bounty on Friday night.
