The Chair of Westmeath GAA is reflecting on his time in the role.

As the Chair of Westmeath GAA heads in to his penultimate year in the role, he's declaring his dissatisfaction with what he's failed to achieve in his first three years.

Frank Mescall is citing the constant need for fire-fighting and unplanned interventions as reasons for a lack of progress on key issues.

With the county's footballers and hurlers about to start their league campaigns, Mescall's considering what's to come in the near and distant future.

The Ballynacargy man believes the ever increasing cost of running senior inter-county teams means compromise on the GPA's players' charter will be required in the GAA, LGFA, and Camogie Associations are going to amalgamate.

Mescall says he has two outstanding tasks to take care of in his last two years:

Numerous changes and developments have been on-going at TEG Cusack Park with healthy and safety upgrades mixed in with aesthetic improvements at the ground.

Dessie Dolan's footballers return to league action next weekend against Offaly in Tullamore while Joe Fortune is bringing his hurlers to Galway on February third to get their campaign underway.
