Difficult Opening Day For Westmeath Against Ruthless Galway

They shipped five goals in defeat.

Westmeath were shown no mercy by a ruthless Galway at TEG Cusack Park as the Allianz Hurling Leagues got underway.

Niall O'Brien top scored for the Lake County with 0-10 but Shane O'Brien's side were put to the sword in a scintillating first half by the visitors. 

Trailing 3-18 to 0-10 at the break, Westmeath kept plugging away knowing more important days lie ahead if they're to maintain division one status. 

There was some small positives to take, substitute Niall Mitchell grabbed a goal and Ciaran Doyle notched the score of the game and potentially the season when he volleyed over a lay off from Davy Glennon from outside the 45'.

Next up from them is a trip to face Waterford next weekend, 5-34 to 1-16 the final score.
