Mullingar Harrier Dalton Set For 10,000m Final In Rome

The Irish cross country champion will be joined by four Irish athletes on the start line.

Cormac Dalton of the Mullingar Harriers will be lining up for Ireland in the 10,000m final at the European Athletics Championships this evening.

There's plenty Irish interest in the race, with no less than four more athletes joining Dalton.

Brian Fay, Efrem Gidey, Peter Lynch, and Barry Keane join 44 other entries for the championship race.

Dalton claimed the national cross country championship last year, and finished 8th in the European Cross Country Championship.

The race gets underway at 844pm.

Before that the all eyes will be on the Ireland women's four by four hundred metres relay team as they bid for a medal at the European Athletics Championships tonight.

They're due on track in Rome shortly after 8pm.

Last night, Laura Mooney of the Tullamore Harriers finished in 26th place on her senior championship debut for Ireland in the 10,000 in a time of 34:03.94.

Her compatriot Anika Thompson came home in 33:19.42 for a 20th position finish.
