The opening weekend served up some near upsets.
The Offaly Senior Hurling Championship is officially underway after the opening round of games over the weekend.
And as expected, produced its fair share of drama and closely contested encounters.
Reigning Senior A champions Shinrone got off to a winning start in their bid to secure back-to-back Sean Robbins Cup's with a resilient one point win over Coolderry in Birr. Trevor Fltcher's men withheld late pressure to secure their opening two points.
Elsewhere in Group 2, despite being without both David Nally and Oisin Kelly, Belmont managed to avoid a shock defeat to Seir Kieran with a 1-18 to 1-16 win.
In Group 1, St Rynaghs claimed a 2-21 to 0-14 win over reigning Senior B champions Tullamore with goals coming from Luke O'Connor and Aidan Treacy, while Birr were 1-15 to 1-08 winners over Kinnitty despite being without talisman Eoghan Cahill due to injury.
Lochlann Quinn ended the game with seven points while Sean Ryan got the games decisive goal.
Kilcormac/Killoughey and Ballinamere both had bye's in the first round.
The hurling championship will return in two weeks, with the football set to begin this weekend.
In Group 1, Kilcormac/Killoughey will begin their season against Kinnitty, while Birr and Tullamore face off on Friday the 21st in Banagher.
And in group 2, Shinrone will face Seir Kieran, while Ballinamere will get their season up and running against Coolderry.
