Tyrrellspass and Killucan had their championship campaigns ended over the weekend.
The Downs and their manager Lar Wall maintain they won't let their dual code status be used as an excuse as they prepare for the Westmeath senior football county final.
In Sunday's semi final the Downs and Tyrrellspass were level scores at half time but Wall's unbeaten side just eeked the second half by two points to win.
A number of The Downs' footballers will line out for Clonkill as they face Castletown Geoghegan in the senior hurling final this weekend.
Seven days later St Loman's will stand in the way of a first Westmeath championship for The Downs since 2005.
Downs manager Lar Wall believes those playing for Clonkill may add to his side's prospects:
On Saturday St Loman's were put to the pin of their collar. The defending county champions failed to score against Killucan in the first 20 minutes and trailed by 5 points at half time, 1-4 to 0-2.
They had that gap closed within 14 minutes of the second half and won on a final score line of 0-15 to 1-9.
Killucan could and should have lead by more at half time but will reflect with regret on the 11 wides they hit when they had the wind.
St Loman's manager Declan Kelly told Gerry Russell that despite appearing outwardly calm in that first half, he was concerned:
