Late penalties, red cards and controversy aplenty in the lake county.
The Downs and Coralstown-Kinnegad have qualified for the semi-finals of the Westmeath Senior Football Championship.
They took the direct spots available to the sides finishing 1st and 2nd in section A.
The remaining two qualifying spots from that section went to Garrycastle and St. Lomans Mullingar.
Garrycastle secured that spot with a draw against C-K, while St. Loman's put up a score on Athlone to knock them out of the championship and clinch progression for themselves.
Liam McNeill Coralstown Kinnegad manager spoke to Gerry Russell after the draw with Garrycastle:
In section B, Caulry retained second spot with a hard fought draw against neighbours Moate.
The debutantes at senior level were awarded a last second penalty as Moate led by three.
Emmet Nally converted with aplomb and Caulry advanced on score difference.
Caulry manager Shane Curran was sent to the stands following a flashpoint and words between himself, the referee and linesman.
Speaking with our Westmeath commentator Gerry Russell afterwards, former Roscommon goalkeeper Curran wasn't best pleased with some decisions in the game:
It was a fitting end to a hotly contested group which saw Mullingar Shamrocks, Caulry and Moate end on six points, with Rosemount a further point behind.
Of those remaining in the championship, everyone has been beaten so it's all to play for.
Results:
- Mullingar Shamrocks 0-10 - 0-9 Shandonagh
- Caulry 2-10 - 1-13 Moate All Whites
- Rosemount 0-11 - 1-5 Killucan
- Coralstown/Kinnegad 1-9 - 1-9 Garrycastle
- Athlone 0-13 - 3-14 St Lomans, Mullingar
- The Downs 0-10 - 1-8 Tyrellspass
Semi-finalists:
- The Downs
- Coralstown-Kinnegad
