Athlone are on the cusp of winning a league title for the first time in their history.
Athlone Town are now five points clear at the summit of the Women's Premier Division after picking up three points on the road last night.
The midlanders took the lead against Wexford thanks to Brenda Tabe in the 22nd minute, before Ciara Rossiter equalised for the home side moments later.
Athlone secured a crucial three points when Tabe struck again just after the hour mark.
Ciaran Kilduff's side can win the league title if they beat Shamrock Rovers on Saturday, and Shelbourne and Galway draw against each other.
