Town's Cup Journey Emphatically Ended By Drogheda

Both sides came into Friday's quarter-final badly out of form.

Athlone Town's FAI Cup journey ended at the hands of Drogheda in Lissywollen on Friday night.

Dario Castelo's side were outmatched by the Premier Division team, losing 4-1 in their quarter final contest.

The midlanders fell behind as early as the 12th minute after their former striker, Frantz Pierrot set up Douglas James Taylor for the opener.

James-Taylor doubled his tally early in the second half to make it 2-0, with goals from Ryan Brennan, and Adam Foley putting the game well out Athlone's reach.

The hosts did score a consolation goal courtesy of a Dean Ebbe penalty in the 85th minute.

Town continue their push for promotion from Division One with a trip to Treaty United on Friday evening.
