A UK study by Censuswide has found more than three quarters of people over 16 think keeping elbows off the table is outdated nonsense, while a third use their phones at dinner.
More than half say they don't care which way round they hold their knife and fork, and nearly 50% reckon good conversation and good food are more important than stuffy rules.
Etiquette experts Debrett's say the golden rule for dining is to "sit up straight, don't fidget, and don't put elbows on the table".
