Midlands Bishop Will Give Go Ahead For Communions And Confirmations "Later This Month"

Denis Nulty is the latest bishop to air his views on the guidance around sacraments.

Communion and Confirmation ceremonies will be held in the Dioceses of Kildare and Leighlin and Ossory later this month.

Bishop Denis Nulty says he has written to all of his parish priests, asking them to continue abiding by "the current, official guidance".

The guidance from government advises against the celebration of these sacraments, with fears that parties held afterwards could lead to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Others, including Archbishop of Dublin, Westmeath's Dermot Farrell, have already given the green light for smaller-than-usual ceremonies to be held.

Bishop Nulty - who oversees parishes in Laois and Offaly in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, as well as in his role as apostolic administrator of Ossory, since the departure of Archbishop Farrell to Dublin last February - says he'd rather wait another few weeks.
