GAA Confirm U20 And Minor Inter-County Season Postponed From Midnight

Games this evening will go ahead as planned.

The GAA have confirmed that all under-20 and minor intercounty competitions will be paused after tonight.

The decision has been in taken in light of the government's decision to move to level 5 of the Covid-19 restrictions which do not come into effect until midnight.

All three midlands counties are involved in round one of the Bord Gais Leinster under-20 Hurling Championship at 7pm.

Offaly will play Westmeath in the Faithful fields, and Westmeath team manager Kevin O'Brien says preparations have been difficult:

Laois meet Carlow in Portlaoise at the same time.

Our Laois GAA commentator Jack Nolan says it's a good chance for the O'Moore county to turn around a poor run at underage level in recent years:

Antrim host Dublin in tonight's other game. 

The All-Ireland under-20 football final between Galway and Dublin in Portlaoise on Saturday has also been postponed as part of the announcement. 

The GAA has issued the following statement:

Following clarification from the Department of Sport around the staging of inter-county fixtures, the GAA can confirm that as of midnight this evening, all minor and U20 inter-county competitions are paused until further notice. 

Accordingly, Saturday’s scheduled EirGrid GAA U20 football final meeting of Dublin and Galway will not take place. 

This evening’s Bord Gáis Energy Leinster U20 hurling fixtures will proceed. 

Additionally, the GAA's CCCC has been informed that Longford will not be fulfilling their Allianz Football League fixture with Cork this weekend.
